The United States interjects themselves into the center of the world's conflicts; either as a super power, a mediator or as a financial supporter. Involvement in all of the world affairs dilutes the creditability, effectiveness and respectability of the United States.
The United States needs to define it's objectives, publically. If we are seeking to retaliate for acts of aggression then the United States needs to strike, create its damage and cease.
If the United States is seeking to create a change in the way of life then we obviously expects to occupy that territory for a period of 16 to 20 years; guiding the current young generation into adult hood.
In parts of the Middle East, in parts of Northern Africa and in other parts of the world: there a governments we would like to see replaced, (toppled, if you will) and in cases such as genocide this may be a honorable and worthy objective.
However, toppling a government may eradicate a particular threat and political leader but it will not bring about a change of life and there is a strong possibility that an equally destructive regime may simply take over.
